Lighting the Way
Story by Lead Support Professional, Diana
Schuller
Every
year, the Flame of Hope travels to
light the way during the opening
ceremony for the
Special Olympics games. During the
2009 South Dakota State Summer
Games, Phuong was chosen to complete
the final leg of the torch run. With
the torch held high, Phuong, along
with staff member, Diana Schuller,
did the honors of lighting the
cauldron to begin the competition!
The torch, know as the “Flame
of Hope”, is a powerful symbol of
the Special
Olympics. It represents the Special
Olympics' commitment to bringing hope
and light to its participants.
Phuong was chosen for this special honor
by the Sioux Falls Special Olympics
Board Members for his years of
participation in Special
Olympics and his spirited, positive
attitude that spreads like wildfire to
those around him.
As you can see by the smile on his
face, Phuong was very excited to
help kick-off the event. The
inspiration he brings to those
around him is remarkable. Throughout
the games, Phuong enjoyed cheering
his friends on to success, as well
as competing in several events
himself.
Please join me in congratulating
Phuong for being chosen for this
honor!
