These Magic Moments
Story by Lead
Support Professional, Megan
Potts
On April 23rd, several people were able
to take a trip back in time to
high school days and experience
the chaotic fun of a prom. The event was hosted by the Sioux Falls Jaycees at the Sioux Falls Downtown Holiday Inn. The proceeds from the event go to support
Camp Friendship.
Several weeks beforehand,
preparations began in earnest
with the most important question
of what to wear needing to be
addressed.
Staff became personal shoppers,
outfitting the women in yards of
lace, velvet or tulle. The men
browsed selections of
button-down shirts and
coordinating ties.

Brian, in a special effort to
impress his lady friends, rented
a tux for the evening. He not
only won the admiration of the
women but also of the judges
when it came to the high honors
of Prom King.
Brian C.
All eleven of the women
felt like queens as they
had their hair styled at
Black Hills Beauty
College. Sparkling
tiaras were arranged
within
coiffures, allowing
the ladies for the night
to all be crowned
“princesses.”
Once they returned home
from their beauty
treatments, arrangements
were made to ready
themselves for photos.
Group and individual
photos were snapped in
“Bragstad Studios,” one
of the townhome’s
garages equipped with a
professional backdrop
and lighting.
Stephanie, once she saw
her photo, exclaimed,
“I’m just so beautiful!”
and wanted to bring it
to work to show
everyone.
The prom experience did
not end there. Everyone
took a turn arriving
with flair as a black
stretch limousine
furnished rides to the
final destination, the
downtown Holiday Inn.
Wonderful, long-lasting
memories were made that
evening as everyone
danced the night away.
This
event
would
not
have
gone
so
smoothly
without
the
teamwork
of
many
people,
including
Linda
Schalekamp
for
her
quick
alterations
on
several
dresses;
Jen
Schaffer’s
personal
time
helping
a
couple
ladies
find
dream

and
accessories;
Rebecca
Allen’s
donation
of a
gown;
Diana

attention
to
the
meal
of
the
evening;
and
Hank
Rikker’s
generosity
in
allowing
the

of
his

Most
important
was
the
collaboration
of
all
staff
at

who
did

part
to
make
this
a
successful
endeavor.
