Stephen's Alaskan Adventure
Story by Support Professional, Jill
Peterson
This past summer, Stephen and I
flew to Seattle, Washington to
board the Royal Caribbean cruise
ship, Rhapsody of the Sea. We
left from the Seattle port for a
seven-night international waters
cruise to the state of Alaska.
During the trip, we stopped in
three different ports. The first
stop was in Juneau, Alaska. Here
we got to experience gold
panning and actually found some
gold!
We
also enjoyed a salmon bake with
a live Alaskan folk singer, a
walk through the town of Juneau,
and a tram ride to the top of
Mt. Roberts.
What a
view!
The second port was in Skagway,
Alaska. This is where Stephen’s
brother, Philip, and wife, CP,
met us for the day. In the
morning, we walked through a
beautiful garden and had a light
lunch. At noon, we boarded the train for a
steep ride through the Yukon Pass
into Canada. The views from the
train were spectacular. Stephen,
his brother, and sister-in-law
really enjoyed their time
together.
The next two days
we were at sea. The highlight of this
time was when we went up Tracy
Arm Fjord and were able to view
some beautiful glaciers. The
ice was so blue! We enjoyed the
scenery from the ship deck as we
sipped our hot chocolate.

In
addition to watching the
glaciers and mountains pass by,
we spent time on the ship doing
a variety of activities such as
watching a ventriloquist, going
to art auctions, swimming,
meeting people, and enjoying the
beauty of the ship.
The last port
was in Victoria,
British Columbia. In Victoria, we
went on a three hour whale-watching
excursion. We were able to see
orca whales, humpback whales,
harbor seals, and California sea
lions. What beauty and power!
Stephen had a wonderful time on
his trip. He will never forget
the beauty of Alaska, meeting
the captain at the captain's
formal reception, and, most
importantly, spending time with
his family.
