Spotlight on Thurman

Story composed by
Amber Jepsen, Lead Support Professional
and
Megan Kosters, Coordinator Of Support Services

The Thurman Home provides support to 5 gentlemen in a quiet neighborhood in Sioux Falls. There are 5 full-time staff and 3 part-time staff along with a great group of part-time unscheduled staff that provide a variety of support.

Thurman staff assist with a variety of support each day including medication administration, cleaning, cooking, budgeting, grocery shopping and personal care.

Besides day to day duties staff make sure to keep each of the guys very busy. Each night of the week one of the guys heads out shopping and doing something fun that is important to them. Each weekend is always filled full of something fun whether it be heading to the movies, fishing, picnics or something fun outdoors when the weather allows. On the weekends we make sure that 2 of the guys are able to attend church each Sunday.

It has also become a tradition to head to the Black Hills for a few days each summer for a nice break from work. This past year we were also able to make Don’s dream come true by taking a vacation to Disneyworld in Florida. He is already making arrangements for his next big adventure to Disneyland in California this spring.
